While I was up north I picked up A Sense of an Ending. It's a fast read (three or four hours?) but it wasn't bad. Kind of makes you feel like an asshole at the end though.

Have you considered that you should always feel like an asshole?

Well, yeah. But this book makes me feel like more of an asshole.

Basically, everything the main character says or does -- even if it's done with good intentions -- negatively effects pretty much everyone around him. It's written in a way that makes you want to lock yourself in your room to avoid coming in contact with people for fear of somehow fucking up their life by saying 'hello'.

Nine years is a long time to spend on one book.
